Percentage and Math Calculators

Quick answers to the number questions that come up at work, at school and at home. Every calculator shows the formula it uses, so you can check the working.

Which calculator do I need?

Use the percentage calculator when you know a percentage and need an amount, or need to know what percentage one number is of another. Use percentage change when something moved from an old value to a new value, such as a price, a salary or a population. For several numbers at once, the average calculator gives the mean, median and mode together, which is useful because a few extreme values can pull the mean away from what is typical.

Fractions and ratios are two ways of writing the same idea: 3:2 means the first part is 3/5 of the whole. Both tools simplify exactly, without rounding.

Percentage points or percent?

If an interest rate rises from 2% to 3%, it has risen by 1 percentage point, but by 50 percent. News reports and contracts can mean either, so the percentage change calculator explains both.
