Why counts can differ between tools
Word processors and websites do not all count the same way. Some treat "well-known" as two words; some count an emoji as two characters because of how it is stored. Our word counter and character counter explain their rules, and the character counter shows technical counts (UTF-16 units and UTF-8 bytes) alongside the count a person would see, because platforms with strict limits often use one of those.
